We have something a bit different today - a lovely 9ct gold (hallmarked) Half Hunter Pocket Watch. It is stunning, please see the following desctiption for more information or check it out on my website!

Asking price

£1000 + Postage of £12.85

Hallmarked 9ct Gold

101 years old, hallmarked in 1924

Chester Hallmark (rarer assay office that is now closed).

Outer case is hallmarked, so is the back and inner protective sleeve. 

Gold weight

Total weight of watch is 83.78g (but not all the weight is gold). I cannot say the exact gold weight in this piece, but a good estimate for half hunter watches with the inner sleeve is approximately 35% of the weight of the entire watch is gold.

This would put this watch at approximately 0.35 ozt of gold weight.

Spot on this would be therefore approximately £885.

Please note this is not a definitive spot value or weight number. It is my best estimate based on my own research and having spoken with a number of jewellers. 

My definition of working order and condition notes

The watch is in working condition but it does lose time unfortunately. It seems to lose around 5 minutes every couple of hours. 

The front face does show some wear on the enammeled numbers, but all of them are still easily legible. 

The glass is intact and (as far as I can tell) origninal. 

I do not have a service history on the watch - but one would imagine that a service on it would be possible to restore it to full timekeeping potential. 

Please note, I am no expert on watches or the restoration of their inner workings (or their price).

The watch winds very nicely, easily and is not stiff or damaged. 

Please note there are some small etchings in the inner cover (presumably from some jewellers over the last 100 years!)

Comparative sales

Having done my research I feel that an asking price of £1000 is fair for this watch. Other watches will go for £1250 to £1500 depending on their condition and weight.
